Illinois Home Weatherization
Community Contacts, Inc. provides two weatherization programs to serve homeowners and renters in Kane and Dekalb Counties of different income levels: The Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program (IHWAP) (Español) and The Utility Energy Conservation Program. These programs are designed to help eligible households conserve energy, save money, and increase comfort.
Our team will perform an inspection and energy audit of the home to determine the proper ways to help clients conserve energy. All measures are installed by licensed contractors free of charge. These updates may include:
- Air sealing
- Attic and wall insulation
- Weather-strip and door sweeps
- Caulk of windows and doors
- Installing LED lightbulbs
- Repairing or replacing furnaces, water heaters and air conditioners
Safety checks are also performed on every home to ensure smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are properly working.
Program eligibility depends upon annual household income, whether you have received LIHEAP assistance in the last 12 months, and if someone in your home receives SSI, AABD, or TANF.
If the household is eligible, one of the agency’s trained staff will schedule the home inspection, determine the work to be done, and work with a licensed contractor to complete the updates. After the work is complete, a final inspection will be done to ensure quality and answer any questions. All work comes with a one-year warranty.
